Over the last four weeks I would estimate that The Carnivore and I have only consumed 15% of food products that I did not make (2 types of bread, gnocchi, rice balls, no bake pasta noddles, and some yogurt).
I want to work to get that number as close to zero as possible but I think 15% is a great start.
Our diet has largely consisted of fresh fruits and veggies. And, I can't believe the difference it has made!
The Good
The Carnivore has lost a total of 15 pounds! His weight loss slowed a bit in the last week. I think I was giving him too many calories each day with the potatoes and rice. Next week he'll be back to side salads and beans for dinner. I'm curious to see if it makes a difference.
Another positive change for The Carnivore has been with his snoring. His snoring never bothered me but it has gotten progressively worse. In fact, the noises he made worried me that he had developed sleep apnea. However, in the last two week his snoring has all but stopped!
I have lost exactly 10 pounds in the last four weeks. I have to add that for the last 6 days I have been on a juice cleanse and I know that added to my weight loss. More on the cleanse tomorrow.
In cutting out processed foods and increasing our fruit and veggie intake I find myself with an incredible amount of energy. I want to go do more instead of sitting in front of the television. I'm sleeping better at night. My mood has also been better and I feel a sense of internal calm.
Changes
We did increase our food budget to $100 a week. I really thought I could do it on $80 a week, and maybe I can with some practice, but right now $100 is more of a reasonable goal especially with all of the produce I'm using to juice.
I want to incorporate more vegan items in to our diet. I have been researching alternative grains and protein sources. I found some amazing recipes using tofu and quinoa that I want to try.
I know The Carnivore will never go vegan but I'm considering trying a vegan diet for the remainder of the summer and adding some type of meat to his portions.
Things to Work On
In May my goal is to learn to make bread from scratch. I already have all the meals planned out for The Carnivore for the remainder of the month. I spent about two hours working on menus because I like having a plan and planning this far out will help me save on the grocery bill.
I hope to continue planning menus for each month in advance.
